Saturday night witnessed one of the quietest celebrations of Hal- lowe‘en in many years and a mini- mum of damage was reported. The Halloween party for all ages, spon- sored by the Georgetown Coni- munity Weifsrs League, no doubt aided materially in s sane and en- tertaining evening for all.

The second annual Hsllowe‘en party sponsored by the Georgetown Welfare League was held in the Town Hall on Saturday night. Practically all children of the town attended and also a large number of parents. Costumes representing all characters of the historic, hum- orous and fictional past. present and future were in evidence and gave to the whole proceedings a Madi Gras appearance. Bingo was indulged in by young and old and many were smiled upon by lady luck. Apples and candy were pass- ed around to all present. after which a lovely lunch, which was generously donated by the ladies of the Town. was served. At the pro- per time the younger of the merry- makers were dispatched to their homes and dancing was then en- joyed for tho remainder of the eve- nirig.

Mr. Albert Macbeod spent the week-end with his family in Murray Harbour North. At present Mr. Mac- Leod is driving a bulldozer, owned by Mr. Ray Kennedy. During the past months he has been excavating, grading. and stumping at. O'Lea.ry, Alberton, Tignish, and other west- ern points on the Island. _

Mr. Weston Johnston left on Sun- day evemng for Brackley where lic has accepted employment. During the summer Mr. Johnston coiii- pleted painting and redecorating the exterior of the United Church in Sturgeon, and also the dwelling houses of Messrs Cameron Reid, and Lowell S. Johnston of Murray Harbour North.

The annual Christian Young People's Society Convention was held at the Central Christian Church in Charlottetown. Saturday and Sunday, October 30th and 31st, with representatives from all over the Island attending. Extensive repairs are nearing com- pletion on the government wharf at. Clowls Shore. The work done by the Dominion Government. was carried on under the supervision of Mr. David W. Miller. This wharf has been in a very dangerous state for the past years. but. is now in a fine condition for the shipping of produce and for the use of fish- ermen. The first vessel to load at. the wharf since its completion was the "Bessie Dougan" under the command of Mr. Arthur White of Murray Harbour South, who tool: a load of farm produce for Sydney, N. B, Mr. Hazcn Macbure, local merchant. purchased the load from various farmers iii the district for Captain White.

The annual meeting o! the Mon- tague Hockey Club was held at the Montague Curling Rink on ‘Thurs- day, October 28th. Tn the absence of the President, Air. Cecil Beck, Mr. Ronald MacDonald presided, The minutes of the last meeting were read by Mr. Archie Hilchey, and the Financial report ivas also read. Both minutes and report were approved as read. It was moved by Mr. Bryer Llewellyn and seconded by Mr. Ken Clements, that. an agreement be made with Mr. B. H. Yeo. vrith regard to hockey games on Saturday night. In the election of officers, it was moved by H. Power and seconded by Gerald Murphy that Mr. Cecil Beck

Other items were discussed, and it. is hoped that there will be two local teams entered in the Eisstem Kings League this year. Word from Georgetown and Murray Harbour is expected soon so that the formation of the League will get Underway for the winter season. After discussing many general questions, the meeting closed.

Residents have been amused to the fact that old men whiter will soon be on his way. On Wednesday Oct. 30 the first. mow fell and on Friday the first. sharp frost. Early risers found the ground white and still with frost. Those who had their fruits and vegetables stored away were glad for having taken the necessary pi " . The flow- er gardens on Saturday morning showed evidence of Jack Frost's visit. The Gladioll and DB-Illifl! were blackened while other flowers such ss Phlox and Delphlniuma, which have s handler nature, were lefi. intact. 0n one rose bush was noticed s solitary red rose. The first. blossoms appeared on it some four months previously, therefore this one must surely be the "last. rose of summer.”

' The frost. has played havoc with other things besides the flowers. Ho nipped the cranberries particularly those on heavy clay soil. Those in very sandy soil went. almost. un- scsthed. The frost. together with the snow which fell made the roads slippery especially s section of road lat. South Lake approximately two miles long. This road was worked last June and not gravellod. This would be a good time to have the work done as the shovel is now working st the gravel pit at Rock- barrs. The road wu dangerously slippy for several days but. from Saturday noon up to the present time was navigable. The bus ser- vice around the block through East Point. has been terminated because of the poor condition of the road 0s’ so rumor has it, the service was appreciated very much during the ' summer months.
