For many years past, the Order on this Island has been in a most unsatisfactory and unpromising condition, owing pricct

ally to the inertness and inattention of Grand Officers. We have, however, reason to ‘hope that the lowest point of depression has been reached, the sky has been getting brighter, and our dear old Order with its generous motto—Love, Punty, and Fi. delity—bids fair to occupy egain that com- manding and influential position to which it is so justly entitled.

Since our last meeting, I have visited officially, each of the twelve Subordinate Divisions then on the roll. Where prac- ticable, I examined the books, ascertained | the mode of working the Divisiong, cor. | rected any irregularities which appeared | to exist, made enquiry into their wants aod condition, and offered such remurks| and suggestions as the circumstances seem- ed to warrant.

I hope to lay before you a more full} and complete report of the state of each Division af our next session.

As G. W. P., 1 accepted a very cour-| teous invitation from James MekKechnie, Ksq., President of the Charlottetown Re- form Club, to attend a general Temper ance Convention in Charlottetown, on the Srd inst, The meeting was very largely attended, and it was decided to hold an- other convention during the coming sum- mer.

The ladies’ also have come to the rescue. We see the mother’s, sister’s, and dauagh- ter’s of our-land uniting together under the Ladies’ Temperance Union. It must be a source of encouragement for them, and indeed for us all, to know that Vic. toria, Kugland’s Queen, and our Queen, who has ever manifested her interest in every good work, has given her patronage to the temperance cause in Great Britain. May her life be huppy and glorious, long to reign over us, God save the Queen.

And. now, a few words in reference to onr meeting to-day. I hope we will geri- ously take into consideration how best we can retain the ground already oceupied, and extend our usefulness as an Order. Let me urge upon you all, the necessity of entering upon the work of strengthening and increasing our Divisions, with a zeal worthy of our Order. The adoption of fraternal visits from one Division to an- other, where practicable, and when pro- perly carried out, will invariably tend to cement the friendship which already exists among the Sonus. ‘he Deputies should take a more general oversight in their res

Your attention is called tothe Allianec Journal, the organ of the Sons of Temper- ance, published iu Halifax, N.S. Every Division at Jeast should have a copy.

Phe time has arrived when the employ- ment and support of a suitable and efficient agent for the Orderon this Island, should be seriously considered by the Grand : Di- vision.

I trust such measures may be taken at this session, as will secure the service of J. B. Gough for two or more Lectures in Oharlottetown,during the coming spring.
