New York, Aug. 21.—Tbe American | Bible Society has received a letter from} Rev. John R. Hvkee, its agent in China, | dated Shanghai, July the 17th. Follow- ing are the more important points in the letter :—

“The director of the China inland miss sion bas bad telegrams frem most of their etations in the Sze Chuen province which show that the anti-foreign crusade has not yet reached the far west; that the feeling of uneasiness in the valley of the Yang Tse continues, and that outrages are multiplying; that the Roman Cathoiic bishop and the priests have been maseacred in Hong Chow and their property destroyed; that the missions in King Tehchend, in the Kiange: province, nave been destroyed; that the foreignere, including the consul and the customs staff, have left Wenu- chow, iv the Cheking province, 200 miles south of Shanghai.”

He adds :—“‘Since I wrote the above word has come that 60 foreign mission+ aries and 100 native Christians have been murdered in Tai Yuec Fu. This will not be published until it is confirmed. The missivnaries from Kai Feng Fu, in Honan, are on their way to the coast and are having a terrible experience.”

Mowcrox, Avg. 23.—Sir Charles Tup- per, in passing through Moncton yeeter- day, was met at the depot by a large num- ber of prominent citizena.

After holding an informal reception in his car, by request he stepped on the rear platform and delivered a short address.

He said he nad met Mr. Foster in St.John and had arranged for a public meeting in Moncton on September 6th.

Ar.incrTox, Minn., August 21’—Theo- dore Wallert, a farmer living three miles from town, last night killed his wife, a boy of 19 years. a girl of 16,and a baby. He then set firetohis barn, destroying the stable with nine horses aad a full hay barn. Mra Wallert had been trying to se- cure a divorce, the couple having separat~ ed.
