Mostkeat, March 21.—The burning question in this city to-night is whether Montreal is to have a repetition of the dis- astrous flood of 1886. Thousands of peo- ple to-day lired the shores of the river St. Lawrence and watehed the ice-laden waters, and bundreds of men strengthing the dyke with blue clay. Merchants whose stores are on the streets likely to be flooded were at work removiig their goods from their cellars, where this precaution had not been adopted some days ago. The city pumping stations are hard at work in an endeavor to keep the sewers clear, and so far have been fairly successful. On Mill street water has flooded the greund floors of large induatri- e+, and the result is that a couple of thou- sand men will not be able to go to work in the morging. The cellarsof a number of large wholesale establishments on Vie~ toria square and Craig street have been flooded, but the goods had all been re- moved. At Longue Point the ice has shcv~ ed up ever the road, anda number of houses have been fiooded.

Campbell; in the 65th vear of her age, leaving a sorrowing husband, five sons and four daughters to mourn the loss of a loving wife, a kind and gentle mother, besides a large circle of friends who speek inthe highest terme of her kind, geatle aad charitable disposition; and by wktom she was held in the highest esteem, as was elearly shown by the large concourse of friends and relatives who followed her remains to their Jast resting place at St. Teresa’s Cemetery.
