Indignation is felt atthe Board of Health that it did not act promptly and isolate the cases when the disease first showed itself. The disease is described as being of the most malignant type, a number of those astacked only surviving from 30 to 40 hours.

Tux Souris branch of the King’s County Temperance Alliance met at that place on the 10th inst. In the evening of the same day a pyblic meeting was held in the Court House, which was addressed by the Rev. Messrs William Phelan, D. F. McDonald, J. G Cameron, Gregory McDonald, W. Waas, and Mr. John Cantwell. The audience was larze and enthusiastic. Avother meeting is to be held in the same place before long.

On the lith inst., in the Court House, Souris, the Rev. Gregory McDonald, P. P.. St. Margaret's, delivered a highly interesting lecture on **The Life of Marshal McMahon.” The room was crowded, and the lecture was listened to with marked attention from the beginning to the close. James McDonald, Esq., High 'Sher'ff. President of the Souris Literary Institute, under whose auspices the lecture was giver, occupied the chair. After the usual vote of thanks, the audience dis- persed, every one feeling that he had enjoyed a rare intellectual treat.

Tuc framework of the gallows upon which the man Gillis is to be executed was placed in the Jail yard thie forenoon, but by order of the Sheriff will not be erected until two or three days previous to the execution. _The gallows stand about fifteen feet in height The rope will be fastened to the structure about three feet above the condemned mans head. He stands on araised platform, com- posed of two hatches, fastened with a pi". After the black cap is placed upon the victim 8 head, and the rope adjusted about his neck, this pin is withdrawn, the hatches drop, and the unfortunate man is launched into eternity: The gallows will be erected in a secluded place inside the jail yard. The execution will be private, not more then two dozen persons being allowsd to witness it. Since his con- viction and sentence the unfortunate man has been under close surveillance day and night No one with the exception of his lawyer and spiritual adviser are permitted to see him. He is allowed to correspond with his friends, bat hie letters must be submittet to the Sheriff before they can be posted. So far he has written two letters, filled with declarations of innocence, ete, The prisouer is, we learn, kindly treated by the jail officials, and he seems fully to realize his terrible position.
