The financing oi the Federation will be based on a membership agreement. from each member. from the school district up to the County, Provincial, Maritime, Can- adian and International levels. It will also provide a chain whereby, valuable and confidential informat- ion can be funneled back to the farm people in each district for their decisions and help.

The Board of directors urge that there be representatives from every farming school district in Prince County at this aiternoom meeting in Summerslde. Therre are many problems to cope with. We can only solve those problems byworking to- gether. Further details of the pro- posed set-up and copies of the Con- stitution and By-laws will be avail- able at the meeting.

Farmers from several districts have been inquiring why they have received their membership card. as they paid their fee several weeks or months ago. We want to make it clear that membership cards were mailed to every person Whose lliilfle and membership fee were submitted. If you have not re- ceived your membership card it is because the school secretary or the person who did the collecting has not yct made returns to our Pro- vincial office.

“'0 would appreciate having all thOse returns in i! possible before next week so that your district can be placed on the honor roll for the annual meeting.

If you have not received your card, we suggest that you inquire from your district Secretary about the delay.

Floor Prices On Eggs

The time has ccme when egg pro- duction is beginning to increase and present trends indicate quite a surplus. There is an increase of six per cent in the population of laying liens ‘in Canada. The uncertainty 0f the British contract for eggs, about a. ten peir cent increase in t-he ooet of potiiti-y feeds. the increase in production of eggs and poultry in the United States and the fact that we cannot do anything about cutting producion after our pattern has been cut out is causing wide spread concern.

The floor price asked for by the Canadian Federation and supported by the Canadian Poultry Council is on the basis of forty six cents a dozen Wholesale, Grade A Large, Government inspected and in new cases and packages ROB. Montreal.

The Federation feels however. that if we had the proper system of marketing our eggs in Canada that consumers could have been protect- ed during the past few months when production was low. By main- taining prices at a. fair level during scarcity periods. when production goes up now the domestic consumpt- ion would require possibly our oom- piete production. Marketing boards apparently are the only method of providing stability. ‘

It will be noticed that we have eliminated from this weekly col- umn our analysis of the Provincial marketing situation. However. we are still watching those matters ixery closely and arc co-cperat- ing ivitii the Department of Agriculture in releasing this in- formation through the ‘Thursday night market report, given by Mr. Shaw.

There is. of course, considerable information being released to the Farm Forums which can also be sent out to fhc farmers in different districts once their County Federat- ions are organized and district sec- retaries appointed.

Discussion Groups

Our farm Forum program is well under way. There are more groups than cver meeting and rcporttns for this time of year. Next Monday nights discussion deals with the question of iuuni efficiency, compar- ing our production and returns per acro with that of other Provinces and countries.

Tllflre are some very interesting questions ccming up during the next three months.

We will be very glad to supply literature and help meznibers who wish to register with us and start meetings with their neighbors on Monday evenings.

Tbs reefer car situation has im- proved greatly since last week and cars are now moving rapidly to their destinations. About two mil- lion bushels of the P. E. I. quota of seed potatoes in the United States should be filled by Decent- ber 1st.

Following are potato prices and market details in various parts of the Province:

Turnip:

Last week reference was made to the low price prevailing on tur- nips in this Province in comparison with the price paid on the Boston market. It is pleasing to note that the local market has advanced and that 55 to 60 cents per bushel is being paid in some sections. In hotli turnips and potatoes the post- Thanksgiving period shows a wealt- ness in demand. From now on, however, the price of turnips should be maintained at a satis- factory level as the supplies are being reduced.

It is interesting to note that in 194B at this date. 488 cars of tur- nips were shipped, while to dine this year 1035 cars have been marketed.

Dairy Product!

Creamery butter quotation: in the Maritime; remained steady during the past week. The quoin- tions for Montreal also remained steady, but Toronto prices advan- ced one-quarter cent per pound for No. 1 solids.

Junior Farmers and Junior Club News

0n Tuesday evening. November 22nd films of the National Film Board were shown to l. large group of young people in the St. George's schoolfflie showing of these films was at the request of the Si. George's Calf Club.

Morris Deacon, Fieldman. Dept. o! Agriculture attended the meet- ing and gave a talk on plans for the future organization of Junior club work in that district.

Meeting closed with the aiming of the National Anthem.

Plans are being made for the s.n- nual short course which is directed by the Junior Farmers’ Federation of P.E.I. and which is to be held this year January 3-7 inclusive at St. Dunstan‘: University, Charlotte. town.

The group meets on ltfoilday night and listens to the Farm Forum broadcast. A radio was purchased especially for this purpose. This group ls also taking instruction on first aid which will continue until the last of January when they in- tend having night classes to furth- er their education in other fields.

slaughter centers and the prices have remained steady from last week's quotations with the excep- iion of the price of sheep and lambs at Charlottetown which are down 1c for good sheep to 7c. while lambs are down 50c for good and choice delivered; good and choice f.o.b. country points are also down 50c. Rail grade Grade A riro down 2c to 45:1 Hogs are still 28.75 and 28.35 for A's and 81's respectively at Moncton, hot dressed weight delivered with sows 19.50 for No. 1's and 18m for No. 2's.

‘The Charlottetown prices i.o.b. country points are for A's 27.75. B1‘s 27.35. No. 1 sows 19. No. 2 sows 18. As already stated other prices are similar to last week with choice steers and heifers at Moncton f.o.b. country points 18 and at Charlottetown good steers 18.50 delivered.

On tho Montreal market at No- vember 21st cows common to med- ium were 50c stronger. Mixed good and medium steers 21.50 with 800d cows 14-4450. Bulls were ‘l6- 1650, Calves cleaned up to 50c higher with good vealers at SS. Lambs were 24.50 graded \l'i'.fl most sales fiat from 23-21.
