Dear Aware and Concerned

Students:

Let me first say I don't believe you are aware or concerned about anything because you didn't have enough responsibility or guts to sign your letter.

. In regards to the letter in the Sun dated October 7, 1982, it is not correct “ in many of its statements. The largest one being the idea of the Hiring Boardw Chairperson. * Nowhere 2 in the UPEI Student Union Constitution does it state the General Mana- ger is the Hiring Board Chairperson. Please in the future check the con- stitution, if you don't you might look foolish again.

This year we had a large number of job ap- plications and this re- flects the great interest the students do have in the Union. .In light of our actions taken in hiring for the positions we had no real alter-na— tives. Please be aware , that we (the executive) began the year with only the Campus Police Chief and Head Bartender hired from the previous year. You state in your letter to the Sun Editor that "without a doubt these people haVe answers to all these questions". Since I'm a menber of the Student Union executive I would assume that when you use the word "people" you include myself. This is fine. Therefore, I would be glad to answer

Yolocamba Ita offers the students and faculty of UPEI an opportunity to hear about a current crisis directly from the source. Being a concerned student and an acquaintance, of one

Brian Brennen, I was dis- myed about the comments Brian made in the last issue of the Sun. Feeling that further incuin was in order, I spent an en—-

lightening hour discussing

those comnents with Brian.

The carment that concerned

me most was Brian stating "students should not have beenrepresented since their stay at UPEI is

temporary." Brian had only

a brief scan of the docu- ment and his comments were on the belief that only freshmen of the University would be affected. Iimever, He was in favour of parents

and high school principals

having input in the Planning Advisory Group. Brian further stated that freshmen not

yet understanding the University's workings would not make any con- structive input into such a complex question. Al— though as a mature fresh- man myself, I do not agree exactly with what Brian said. I endorse his suggestion of parent and primary school head input. V '

I strongly feel that many members of this community are capable of sayinz what ought to be said right now when we as a whole body

are capable of responding to in the rieht way. So,- if they are afraid of loos- ing their positionS', then they should be even more so if the UniverSity ceases to exist. 'The second statement 1 was concerned with was Brian saying he'd "rather see then cut unnecessary programs than the athletic department. " While both Brian and I agree on the importance of the ath- letic dept. , and how it helps the university stu- dent body, the only un- necessary program offered at this university has an enrollment of O. I would at this time like to endorse Brian in his ac— cepting a position no other student wanted, and to calmend him of the running and organizing of all pubs- I may nct agree with him, but I thankhim for ‘taking on the task of vice-president internal.
