This is an outrage upon the Company aud cannot but be a blow to the trade of the Province.

They promise all, without excep- tion ; and thereupon a deputy is elected.

The Conservative Majority.

A return of the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery, just issued, shows that in Parliament the Conservatives number 143, the Liberals, 68,—mxjority, 75; while throughout Canada the Conserva- tive majorities aggregate 32,381, against 15,354, the total amount of the Liberal majorities. But as the Montreal Guzette points out:—**The majority vote does not fairly represent the strength of the Conservative party in the Dominion, as out of twenty-five electiong by acclama- tion, the Conservatives obtained iwenty- four. The parliamentary majority of two to one is very ueariy in accordance with the popular whether it be taken separately by proviuces, or in the aggregate for the whole Dominion.”

Frauds in Fishing Bounties.

Now that the season of applying for fishing bounties has arrived, the Depart- meut of Marine aud Fisheries has felt it necessary to issue a circular to magis- strates requesting their co operation to check frand in the claims sworn to before them. We regret that Prince Edward Island figures couspicuously in these frauds. Srr,—I go to the Post Office every even- ing, after arrival of the mail, but to get there is the d:fliculty. At the southern angle entering the square there used to be, mapy years ago, four posts; one of them, long since, succumbed to the ravages of time, and rotted off near the ground, leav- ing enough of the original stick projecting to stub your toe against neatly. Inside the enclosure, you encounter the relics of a sidewalk, which was laid down, judging from what remains, about seventy-five or eighty years ago. About one-half of the original planks have disappeared, and joined their kindred dust, and those which remain have an unpleasant faculty of get- ting in your way. Is it not time that they before the muddy weather conies, & new and wider platform laid. Come, Mr. Sterling, it will not cost much, and will never be missed out of Sir Leonard’s surplus.

Six,—On Water Street, opposite W. W. Clarke’s store, is an old cellar, which at one time may have had some sort of cover- ing over it, but is now positively dangerous for pedestrians. The cellar is open, and the sidewalk has fallen in, and a false step on the part of a person might be the means of breaking his neek. Will the representa- tive of Ward 1, whe has been passing this locality half a dozen times a day for the last seventeen years, see that this man-trap is removed.

Dear Srr,—The sidewalk along Roch- ford Square to St. Peter’s-Church, to which you directed attention a few weeks ago is getting no better fast. It used to be four planks wide, but now about one half of them have decayed; and getting vour foot into one of the holes is like getting it caught in a failway frog. I believe that the Church is situated in Ward Four. Will Councillors Ladner and McRae kindly order repairs to be made immediately ?

Tuer stockholdsrs of the Keely Motor Com- pany, Philadelphia, are ap in arms again, and are preparing for a suit against the inventer, John W. Keely. Great dissatisfaction has been felt by the stockholders who visited the shop on July fourth, at the inventor's special request months before, to make the inaugural journey to New York. Now, how- ever, the complaints come from Mr. Keely’s former friends. A reporter called on William Bockle a few days ago. ‘‘I didn’t know that the stockholders were about to appeal to the courts again,” said he. ‘But I do know that that the engine has notirun. | mean the new one, They are still tinkering away at it, but I do not know when it will run.” It was supsequently learned from an employe of the company that the counsel for the company is about to bring an action against Keely for the non-fulfilment of his many p'edges,
