Premier Murray and Attorney-G2nera! Longley, of Nova Scotia, left Ottawa on the 12th. They have pressed the claims of the province for the amount of subsidy, $600,000, given totne Eastern Extension Railway, now part of the Government railway system.

It is pleasing to hear that Mr. Thomas Flynn, ron of Mr. Thomas E. Fiyon, of the Customs Department, who left here for New York abort two months ago, has obtained a position as conductor on tbe cable cars in that city. Before obtaining the position Mr. Flynn had to pass a rigid examination.

A Dream Inrerpretep.— According to an exchange a laborer of Dundee, Scotland, lately told his wife, on awakening, a cur- ious dream which he had during the night. He dreamed that ke saw coming toward him, in order, four rats. The first one was very fat, and was followed by two lean rats, the rear rat being blind. The dreamer was greatly perplexed as to what evil migbt follow, as if has been understood that to dream of rats denotes calamity. He appealed to his wife concerning this, but she, poor woman, could not help bim. His son,a sharp isd who beard his father tell the story, volunteered to be the inter- preter. “The fat rat,” he said, “is the man who keeps the public house, that ye gang till sae often, and the two Jean anes are me and my mither, and the blind ane is yerself, Father.”

A Nove Rocker.—An exchange states that a traveller going through a sparsely settled section of Canada came toa lonely cabin and, findiog the door open, went in. Nobody was insight, butin the centre of the room he sax a cradle with a baby lying in it fast asleep. The cradle was rocked tack and forth with great reguler-~ ity, and he was puzzled to kuow what kept it in motion. On examination, he found a stout cord attached to a_ nail driyen in the side of the cradle and passed through an auger hole iv the side of the house. He took up the trail, which led him inte a ravine where a donkey was standing and switching his tail’ The mystery was explained. The other end of the cord was attached to the doukey’s tail, and the constant switching kept the crad!e in motion. It was an ingenious device on the part of the motherto keep her baby asleep while she went oft for atime.

Passep rae Cexttry Marx.—Mrs Jane Murphy died at the Government Poor House on Wednesday at the advanced age of 110 years and 9 months. Owen Murpby, her husband, died inthe Poot House on the Sth April 1882, at the age of 90. They were natives of Ireland. Owen was a weaver, aod brought his loom from Ireland when he emigrated.

After hearing several witnesses the prisoner was remanded for eight days. Mary Power,a countrywoman, charged with drunkenness wae released upon her promise to leave the city im the afternoon. Henry Welsh, also charged with drunkenness, was fined $5 or 30 days.

Herp or Sueer Lost—A report from Saa Antonio, Tex., says tnat M, O. Murpby, one of the biggest sheep men in Texas, was recently moving a heard of 1¢,000 sheep out of Schleicher county to New Range when a dense fog settied over the country. The Mexicav herders became bewildered,and theentire herd of sheep was lost and hs not yet been found. One of the herders wandered away and perished in a norther which followed the lifting ofthe fog. At last reports a number of searching parties were out hunting for the 10,000 sheep.
