is to be round in the closing words. "This man went down to his house Justified rather than the other." in that one sentence is laid bare the truth which so much subse- quent thought and argument have worked up into an elaborate theology of ”Juatlllcation."

what is goodness as understood by anyone who has truly entered into the Christian experience? Just precisely not that which is commonly. and rightly, described as pharlsaism. The essence or that mistaken attitude is to imagine that goodness consists in the vir- tuous acts by which men earn God's approval. They keep ac- counts with Him: so many good deeds. so many pious observances, reckoned up a day or a week: and so many credit maria entered in the ledger in the opposite column.

That is the delusion under which very many of us who have been "virtuausly brought up” suitor: and it has only one or two ends-- pride or despair. Either we delude ourselves into believing that we are doing it; or we discover that we are not and cannot.

Christian goodness is the result' 0! realizing that to think o! good- ness in that way is to have got the -whole thing the wrong way round. The Christian is not a good man who deserves God's favour: he is a bad man who knows that the forgiving love of God is the one power by which he can be set on the right track of sell-know- ledge. penitence, and humble

The -president. Mrs. Emmett Ber- nard. presided and following the opening "ode". the minutes were read and approved. Mrs. Howard Christie reported tor the Dental Clinic committee stating that a dentist had been established who was working with the younger chil- dren. - The purchasing of a piano was again discussed and the iollowing committee was appointed to pur- chase same. Mr. Christie. Mrs. Ern- est Cousins. Mrs. W.1'. Bowman and Mrs. C. H. Mccvuigan. Five dollars was voted for the "Polio Fund". Ten dollars was voted for cleaning the school and a dona- tion of three dolls s was received from Mrs. Frank . Doucette for the Institute Tllnds. .

Mrs. 0.3. Matheson outlined programme for Education Week scheduled for week beginning March .'ird. details to be ilnlilized at next meeting. The sum of five dollars has been received from Wheatley River w.I. for-anemorial library and plaque.

Three thank you cards were re- ceived for Christmas treats and the following committee was ap- pointed to start work on a play. Mrs. Frank Bagnall. Mrs. Howard Christie and Mrs. C. H. McGulgan. The secretary was asked to order capsules for children from Red Cross and work is to he resumed on quilts. Collection taken amounted Ii.70. The March meeting will be at the home or Mrs. W. I. Bowman and the roll call will be answered by an article for fish-pond.
