Dr. McLeod graduated from McGill Medical College last term, taking first rank honors. He afterwards went to New York and attended a three months course in the Bellevue Hospital there. Mr. Mi.tsr, Inspector of Weights and Measures, Halifax, has been here for some time fitting up the office of Mr. Knight, Gas Inspector, and Mr Reddin, Inspector of Weights and Measures, for this Province. The office is row situated on the corner of Pownal and Watery Streets, in the store formerly occupied by Dean Bros. It has been well fitted by Mr. Millar who has also arranged aud repaired the Inspector’s apparatus, and left everything in first-class order.

Cricket. —'The managing committe of the Pheenix Criket Club held a meeting last evening in the office of Davies, Sutherland & Weeks. A team to play the ‘‘Wander- ers” was decided upon, and other business of importance transacted. Steps are to be taken immediately to place the ground in first class condition, and to give the Hali gonians a good reception. No doubt many of the citizens wi!] take pleasure in assist- ing the Phenix Club to make their first visit to thisIsland an enjoyableone. From this time forward, it is the intention of the team to yo into regular practice, and we hope to see them acquit themselves well.

Tue Annual General Meeting of the Fro- vincial Rifle Association was held at the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court Room last evening. Quite a number of the officers and members of the militia were present. Capt. McRae was appointed Chairman in theabsence of the President, TheSecretary submitted the accounts for the past year which were approved of. He also informed the meeting that the Department of Militia Defence had undertaken the repairs of butts and firing points, which will some- what lighten the expenses of the Associ- ation. The following gentlemen were elected members of Council for the ensuing year :—For Queen’s County, Oapts, Pass- more, Dogherty and Stewart re elected. Capt. Moore, Liout, Macdonugall, For King’s County, Capt. Owen, Lieut, Fraser. For Prince County, Capt. ives, James W. Richards,E:y.,M, P, P. A committee was a>pointed to draw up new rules for the government of the Association to be sub- mitted to an adjourned meeting to be held in the same place on Tuesday next, the 10th inst., at 7.30 p. m.
