Tharsday, the 2ist inst., Mr. Dancan Mc Pherson, of Hamilton Road, Lot 8, while cut- tiog down a tree, sustaiped injuries which re- sulted in hie death. Smatipox.—Dr. Jenkins yesterday after- roon received a letter from Robert Cox, Chairman of the Morell Board of Health, ask- icg him to visit that place end examine three suspicious cases —children- -in the family of a men named U'Brien, Nove of the physicians of the neigaborhood could be induced to go near the patients, as it was'suspected they wee developing smallpox. The Doctor will visit amd examine the cases as scou as possible. * * * The seventeen suspicious cases at S8t. Dunstan’s Col- lege sre sill now in perfect heaith, and were out walking to-day. ° * The patients at Wins'oe Road, Afton Road and Fort Augustus are all doing well. Tug Carnival, to be held in the Roiler Rink to-morrow evening, promises to be one cf the best ever held in the city. The Rink is being gayly decorated and otherwise made attract- tve aud comfortable. Already upwards of seventy /adies and gentlemen have entered, and a large contingent will arive from Sum- merside to-morrow to t*ke part in the affair. The Bond of the 82nd Bettalicn will open the evening's smusement with a grand march on rollers. This is a new feature in carnivals and will doubtless be much appreciated. Ma. James Srewant, of East River, in- forms us that on Monday even ng last he witnessed a singular phenomena a short dis- tauce from his residence. About half-past nine o'clock that evening Mr. Stewart and his wife noticed a peculiar light—about two feet in circumference —moviag along at a height of about six feet from the grount. Sometimes it would move along quite rapidly, and at others its pace would slacken. When Mr. Stewart first saw the light it was coming out of a neighboring wood—that of Charles Munn. J¢ then passed across Appletree Farm into another wood on the east side thereof. Pass- ing through this wood the light crossed the farm of James Burns and disappesred in the woods on the adjoining farm of Alex. Me- Gregor. Mr. Stewart and his wife watched for the re-appearance of the light for upwards of an hour, but could not observe it again. Monday night was brizht, and there was no necessity for any person being abroad with a lactern—a fact which, courled with the peculiar appearance of the light, makes the affair all the more mysterious.

Temperance mw Kino'’s County.—A meeting of the Municipal Temperance Al- lianc» for King’s County met in Souris on the 20:h inst., when, notwithstanding the state of the roads and the inclemenoy of the weather, there was a fair representation of the ac ive temperance workers for the County, the Rey, Willian Phelan having driven all the way from Montague to be present. The principal business before the Alliance was the consideration of the best course to be pursued in carrying out the Scott Act, now that the License Act of 1883 has been pronounced unconstitutional. Inter Ali. lt was agreed to appoint Messrs. Olay and Weatherbie as prosecutors for the County. On the 17th, two young men belonging to Lot 7, broke into the s‘ore of Mr. England in that locality. They were arrested and on Thursday lodged in jail to await tril.
We are informed that on Wednesday, while Mr. Wm. Allen of Searitown was crossing a field, she stepped into a hole in the ice and broke her leg. Dr. Sutherland of Centreville is in attendance.
We are informed that Mr. Alfred Schur- man of Bedeque has a Brown Stout colt for which he refused $300. off2red to him by our townsman, Mr. H. Farrow. What number of ducats could induce Mr. S. to part with his handsome colt we have not learned.
Some two weeks ago Mr. Anthony Cras- well, of St. Eleanor’s, passed to his final rest at the age of 88 years. Mr, Crasweil was an honest, upright man, and a good member of society. For many years he had been an Elder in the Presbyterian Church of this town, and until recently his seat in church was se!dom vacant. He was a sincere, careest Christian, noted for his consistent walk and conversation. He leaves a large well-doing fami'y of sons and daughters.
