Towep Ix—Yesterday the May Queen went up Mast River and towed down the topsail schr. A. M. Brundret from a point oft the asylum where she was ashore. It is said that the Government steamer Southport undertook to tow the Brundret from one of the wharves up East River and left her where she was found by the May Queen. There are three tug boats in the city and it seems strange that the Provincia! Government should enter into com petition with them.

Self-Denial Week—What has been done and what is aimed at,

The Salvation Army is all alive and actively engaged in preparing for its aonual Self-Denial Week, which takes place throughout Canada from Nov. 30 to Dec. 7, inclusive.
Large sums of m ney have been raised in past years, and it is a wonderful te-ti- mony to the Army’s development and activity. Each member of the army, as well as the friends of its many sociai in stitutions are asked to abstain from all luxuries, and in many cases officera sad soldiers have actually determined to do without certain articles of food which are ordinarily considered necessary, in order that by their acts of self denial they may add financia! support to the army an: its many different branches of work.
The social operations throughout Canada have been greatly developed during the

been opened at Winnipeg and Victoria re- spectively. Age natural consequence, therefore, the demands upon the army’s funds have increased, and thus will re quire stil] greater effort to raise a corres- pondingly increased amount during this special Seif-Denial week.
