Hello again. One of the hot topics in financial aid news these days in the Canada Student Loan and its appeal procedure. I would like to point out two think, 1) if you aren’t satisfied with your load assessment, for a legitimate reason, you have a right to appeal and 2) many appeals are handled very routinely through the Stu- dent Aid branch of the Dept. of Education.

Steps for appealing your stu- dent loan:

1. There is no deadline for ap- peals. Although it is in your in- terest to file an appeal as soon as possible.

2. You can appeal if:

-you didn’t receive amount of award requested

-if your award was adjusted

3. You may appeal any of the following: assessed student con- tribution, assessed parental con- tributions, and/or assessed edu- cational costs. The usual basis for appeal is an extenuating cir- cumstance. However, even if your reason isn’t a common one don’t hesitate to appeal if you can’t meet your expenses for the com- ing year.

4. Your student contribution may be appealed due to excep- tionally low income, unemploy- ment, or if you attended interces-

sion courses or summer school.

5. Parental contribution ap- peals will be considered in the case of funeral, legal fees, wed-
