Orrawa, June 23.—Although representatives of the Dominion, and of Ontario and Quebec ports were present at the conference held here yesterday, the conclusions reached, based on the recent judgement of the Judicial Committee of Privy Council, are of far-reaching impor tance to all the provinces.

Fees will be collected and retainable by the provinces, bat in addi- tion the Dominion bas a right to impose tax. Thus the ¢ffect may be that the provinces wii] still charge $50 license fees -for pound net# and then the Dominion will impose a tax of $10 on ea ch license. The closing exercises of the University of Ottawa were held on Monday night with unusual eclat.

Rev. Dr. Fallon, vice rector, presided in the place of Rev. Dr. Con+tantineau, who sailed recently on a visit to Kurope.

Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Aberdeen and eurte, Archbishop Dubamel, ceveral members of the Federal Cabinet, Mayor Buybam, aod over 800 other repre- sentatives of Ottawa society, were press nt in the Academy Hall of the University to assist at the exercises.

Sir W. Hingston, M. D, of Montreal, delivered the oration.

The University glee club of 100 vo cer, accompanied by an orchestra of 15 pieces, rendered “ The Cantata ” during the even - ip

hen the recipients of honors from the faculty of the university was Mr. Thomas E. Cullen, son of Mr. Patrick Cullen, of Charlotuetowmn, Mrs Cullen has the distinction of» being a triple medallist, an honor wor wy once in the last fifteen years,

Besides receiving the a of B. Pb. cum summa laude, Mr, Cullen captured the Goveroor General’s silver medal in the University course, the Uhancellor’s ee meda! in the English sonra, the University silver medai, io «the bighest average ieaeg the medallists of the University.
