to suspend life in certain animals for an indefinite period, freeze the animals soas to prevent decomposition, and then bring the creatures to life at plea- sure! Apart from the refrigerative prozess, the particulars are given as to the susjension and restoration of life. in a favorite doe. A lamb, with life suspended ret iverated for days, was was restored, and then went about gambolling and bleating as if nothing had happened, thus surpassing the dreams of the alchemist, or the most classic fictions of Washington Irving.

The object of the experimenters is an economic one, numely, the shipment of refrigerated sheep, temporarily dead, to Great Britain, ete., but the narrative concludes with speculations as to the effeet of the application of the process to a human being. They sug- gest a form of apparently painless death; a period of indefinite sleep; and apparently—if the above facts are sus- tained, we see no reason to the contrary —of a resurrection to life,in Rip Van Winkle style--of the human sleepers! | The theme itself suggests even greater and more wonderful scientifie and vital possibilities, but until we hear more about the progress of the experiments we submit the wonderful facts alleged, whieh seems to us to be fairly vouched for, to the consideration of our readers,

The following paragraph is from the Polk County Journal, published in Corkston, Minnesota. ‘Phe Mr. Me- Donald referred to therein therein, for the last seven seven years was mate of the steamer “ Princess of Wales,” and a young man who is well and favorably known in this city. We shall be glad | at any future time to hear of his sues{ cess in the: land of his adoption :--“Mr. R. A. McDonald, of Prince Edward Island, and Mr. Arthur Willis, of Lon- don, Ont., arrived in this city on Tues- day. These gentlemen are prospecting with a view to locating in the merean- tile business at some point along the line of road, and on Wednesday started for the Tamarac river. Knowing that country well, we predict for these gentlemen a_ brilliant success if they | should elect to locate at that. point. They also intend to take some Govern-} ment land, which in that locality is of choicest in the country.

Two of our Summerside Skippers, Captains Crozier and Kane, sailed a few days ago in charge of Mr. Muir- head’s clipper schooner Adeliade, on a eruise to the Labrador, Anticosti, and the Rameo Islands. They are all. the) crew, and will cook, keep watch, and watch in turn, Capt. Crozier knows} the spot where Capt. Kidd's treasure} is hid, and will visit it. They are two} fine sterdy men and*will not throw! away their time dancing with the Ks~| quimaux or Caraquet dark-eyed maidens, the venture. We wish all eoncerned every success, and hope the brave brave Captains will return safe and with a rich cargo.— Progress.

The cable brings intelligence to the; effect that the strike among workmen in the timber trade, which began at Sudswail, Sweden, at the end of May, has extended to all the leading ports of the Soderbam district on the Gulf of Bothnia. Ten thousand men are idle} and the Government is taking measures against violence by the strikers. As Norway and Sweden are the principal competitors with Canada in the Eng-| lish wood markets, labor strikes in) Sweden ave not without interest to | Canadian shippers and manufacturers of | timber and deals.
