Drs. Carruthers and Wickham were Alberton, on Friday evening. The banquet was tendered Dr. Carruthers to celebrate his return to his old practice, and to Dr. Wick- ham because of the satisfactory mannner in which he looked after Dr. Carruthers’ patients during the latter’s absence. There were about fifty guests present, and the banquet was a distinct success.

I beg here to repeat my statement that when on Tuesday the 21st April, Mr. Hag- girt moved that on Wednesday the House sould go into Committee on the resolu- tions, he did not say a single word about the Governor-Genera]’s assent having been obtained. It is true the Votes and Proceed- ings have the formal entry you quote. But as a fact not a single word was spokeu

In confirmation of this I appeal not to my memory, which is very clear about it, but to the Hansard Report of what 1 said in the House, page 6983. This report, which I have quoted avove, shews that Mr. Haggart did not say a single word about the Governor-General’s assent hav- ing been obtained.

Bat he never did move the House into committee or say another single word on the subject, and while it is true that the Votes and Proceedings do contain the formal statement you quote, the fact iaas I remember distinctly, aad as Hansard conclusively proves, no such statement was made.
With regard to your other statement in your same issue that ‘tin the supplement~ ary estimates for 1896-97 there was an item for $250,000 to begin the work.” =I toust say I read it with surprise. I chal- lenge its correctness and call for your proof. I beg to tell you that no supple- mentary estimates for 189697 were breught down at all that I ever heard of. If [ am wrong T will be glad to be correct- ed. The main eetimates for 1896-97, which were tabled, contained no vote for apy sum for the P. E. Island Branch Rail - ways. Nor was any sum ever brought down or proposed to be voted towards the construction of these roads by eupple- mentary estimates or otherwise.
