Laree Fretcats.—The steamer from Sum merside to Point dua Chene on Wednesday brought over 40 horses and some 300 or 400 sheep. The horses were brought over by two American bayers aud were « fiue io’. Pork and beef have both gone up $1 a barrel. MENDING THE SipewaLKs. — Some half dozen commercial travellers, who are staying at the Niagara Hotel, Springhill, turned out on Saturday morning with axes, saws, shovels, hammers, etc , and began the repair of the sidewalk on Victoria street. —Springhill News. There are several loose planks in the sidewalk on Grafton street, between Hillsborough and Weymouth, that have been tripping up pedes trians for several months past, which com- mercial travellers or some other persons should attend to at once.

RemMarRKABLe WeaTHeR,—Some remarkable Weather is reported from Colieton County, Such Carolina. For i4 months _ fol- lowing the earthquake of August, 1886, the e ws an almost co ‘tinuous drouth, the streanis aud springs dried up, and crops and cattle perisued for want of water. A little over two months ago rain began falling steadily in that section, and for 58 days there were only twoon which it did not rain. All the low Isnds have been turned into lakes, no crops have been made and the people are destitute.

Scorr Act,—Armed with a warrant for the arrest of Feix Martin and a search warrant for liquors, six members of the police force in- vaded Felix’s premises, on Water street, this forenoon. They fouud the door locked and were obliged to break it open. On entering they seized all the liquor they could find —a few jars and demijohns. The Death Lonpow, Oct. 11. The British Metical Journal publishes details from Sir Morell Mickenzie’s book of the case of the late Emperor Frederick. Dr. Muckenzie says the death blow was given the Emperor on Apri! 12th when 4 false passage was mide by Dr. Bergmann. The tube caused exrens ve suppuration around the trachea, which steadily drained away the E:nperor’s remaining strength and shortened his life at least ten months. Ex- cept when the false passage was made and Dr. Bergmann thrust his tinger into the wound, the Enperor never suifered actual pain.

A Sad Accident.

Surton, Ont., Oct. 11.

Horses drawing Dr. Sibbald’s carriage, containing several persons, became frightened this evening and ran away,over- turning the carriage on the track in front of the engine Mrs. R. M. Anderson’s legs were cut off at the knees and Dr. Sibbald lost his arm. The engine pushed the other occupants off the track, along with some of the wreck rye of the carriage, but they were badly bruised.
