THE MOTHER. I, It was April, blossoming spring, They buried me, when the birds did sing.

Earth, in clammy wedging earth, They banked my bed with a black, damp girth.

Under the damp and under the mould, I kenned my breasts were clammy and cold.

Out from the red beams, slanting and bright, 1 kenned my cheeks were sunken and white.

The annual eale of the fainous Belle Meade earlings commenced on Monday, abont 1,900 orsemen being in attendance, at the stud farm near Nashville. The highest priced colts are a full brother to rter by Enquirer—Bonnie Meade, whom J. {, Brown, Texas, bought for $3,700; a brown colt by Irequois—Bonnette, which weut to the same stables, for $3,500, and a chestnut by Luke Blackburn and Tullahoma, bought for $3,100 |by the enterprising Brown. The highest. priced filly was a brown by Ireq uois—Castilla, which sold for an even $2,000. Forty four head were sold altogether the first dey, bringing $47,276, an average of $1,084 pe animal. The Enquirer colts brought the most money, four selling for $8,800. The Iroqueis get came next, six being sold for $2,800. The

Maritime Province Club. A NEW SOCIAL ORGANIZATION FORMED IN BOSTON. The ‘‘Maritime Province club” is fairly launched on the sea of Boston social life. An enthusiastic meeting wae held on the evening of the 7th inst. at Soc‘aljHall, Tre- mont Temple. Dr. R. Upham presided. A constitution was adopted which pro- vides that natives of Nova. Scotia, New Brunswick and Priuce Edward Island and their descendants shall be eligible to mem- bership; that the objects of the club shall be for ‘‘literary, social and charitable pur- popesi 3 — reams admitted, but shall not be called upon for money, or mitted to hold office or vote. No religio ~ or political subject, foreign to the purpose of the club, will be discussed at its meet- ings. t is the purpose to push the club during the next three months, and to have ad- dresses from the distinguished men of the provinces who will pass throagh Boston during the summer months. y fall the organizers expect to have a good ciub room which will be open every evening in the week. Another meeting will be held on next Thursday evening.
