The running drill has been added to the discipline of the British Army. A general order, just issued from the Horse Guards, directs that the Infantry Regiments shall be exercised in this drill once a day. Soldiers who have served over fifteen years, or are excused by medical certificate, are exempted. For the first fortnight the distance is not to exceed 300 yards a day; for the second it may be increased to 600 yards; for the third 900 yards, and after that to 1000 yards daily with arms and aecontrements car- ried on alternate days. The pace, on all occasions, is to be at the rate of ti miles an hour.
