Oxg of the greatest gold discoveries ever made in British Columbia is that reported from Kootenay District. A prospector who has returned to Victoria from that place brought a specimen of lead and silver ore of marvellous richness and nearly pure. He says the mines are a vast extent and that in one location there are two hundred and fifty thousand tons of ore in sight and that the value of these mines at present discovery 1s fifty millions of dollars. The glories of Lead- ville pale before this wren reports. One seam is one bundred feet thick. He tells of veins of pure copper visible in the rock.

The mines are within sixty miles of the route
