It is retreshing aud delighifal to walk through these beautiful gardens. They cemprise about filteen acres—a square block—in a part of the town, easily ac- cessible. They are in charge ef the City Council and are under the immediate care of a certain Mr. Power, to whom great credit is due. The second is from the Austrian Ambassador at St. Peterburg to the Emperor Francis Joseph, communi- cated through Baron Haymerie, the Aus- trian Premier, stating that Giers, the Rus- sian Foreign Secretary of State, and the Czar returned from Dantzic with an_ in- creased sense of tranquility and content- went. Tue Collector of Canso, on Saiurday last, seized the schoomer ‘‘M. W. P.,”’ of Sheet Harbor, and sloop *‘Annie,” of Boston, togeth er with their cargoes of liquor and cigars for violation of revenue laws.
The above vessels were at Souris harbor on Wednesday last, endeavering to land the liquors unknown to the Customs authorities. But while oue of the parties maialy interest- ed was in Souris making arrangements for the reception of the smuggled goods the sloop weighed anchor and sailed for Canso, where she was overtaken by her companion, and then both met the fate of the smuggler—seizure.

Enratum.—Iin a recent issue there appeared Statement to the effect that ‘* Dunbar McUabe stabbed a man named Read Lewis, of Tryon, by rushing at biza with a krie, while Lewis was driving in a wagon. Crawford, his Attorney, (the latter being present at the trial before the Justices) are that Lewis re- ceived a blow from some persen, but there was no evidence given that those present were at all in amazement, but on the contrary thereof Lewis never was heard by any persou present to say that he was stabbed, or im any way injured, until about two and a half miles from the meeting as stated and the only evi dence of any account against McCabe was a Miss Lydia Reid, who swore that she saw McCabe run away from the wagon; but sev-
