Assaut. —Peter McAleer rppeared before J. T. Mellish, Esquire. J. P., today, to answer for assaulting Elizabeth McAulay and Mary McAalay, The cass stands ad- journed for one week. The complainants, who live in the Royalty near St. Denstan’s College, are frequently annoyed by boys who come about their premises, McAleer is one of the offenders and several others are also to be brought to justice.

This grand parade will be well worth seeing. Winnipec, Aug. 4—A despatch from Calgary says the liberation of four China- men, who were pronounced cured by the doctors, from smallpox quarantine, caused a disturbance there Jast night. The mob, three hundred strong, raided every Chinese laundry in town, demolishing the buildings and ruining the contents, maltreating the inmates who in many cases barely escap- ing with their lives. During the melee the police kept out of the way, and when the mounted police came the mob dispersed. The Chinamen have consulted lawyers and will make a claim on the town“for damages.

Haurrax, Aug. 4.—The Artillery had beautiful weather to-day, and progress was made in catching upto the time lost by yesterday's rain. The firing was by the Montresl batteries. In the 20-pounder competition No. 5 Battery made 49; No. 4 battery, 29; No. 6 battery, 12. In the 64- pounder cumpetition No. 3 battery made 49; No, 5 battery, 38; No. 2 battery, 34: No. 4 battery, 19; No. 1 battery, 17; No. 6 battery, 12.

Cuicaco, Aug. 4 —An attempt was made last night to blow up the residence of Charles D. Irwin, a wealthy board of trade operator, bya woman. She evidently be- came frightened by passers-by and ran ofl, leaving @ can containing ten pounds of giant powder behind her. This amount was sufficient to have blown the building to atoms. The woman was dressed in deep mourning.

Lonvon, Aug. 2.—The privy council to- day unanimousiy dismissed on all points the appeal of Mr. Read and others, mem- bers of the Church Association, from the judgment of the Archbishop's court in the case of the Bishop of Lincoln (Dr. King), and upheld that judgment, which declined to inflict any penalty or monition upon the bishop for alleged ritualistic practices.
