The treasurer reported that the allocation was reached. At the November meeting twri faithful workers, Mrs. Zylpha Newson and Mrs. Owen Younker were pre- sented wlth life membership cer- tificates. It was agreed that boxes of fruit be sent to six shut- lns at Christmas.

Next meeting to be held at the home of Mrs. Elmer and Mrs. Ralph Younkor. Lunch committee are Mrs. Edgar Newson; Mrs. Elmer Younker and Mrs. Bert Willis. Mrs. Vllillaril Proud was appointed to have charge of the worship service.

The epitaph was k.lloM'n to the classical nations of antiqwty. and nearly every poet from Chaucer to comparatively recent times, has perpetrated epitaph to the mem- ory of the living and the dead. That some of these epitaphs are queer and highly amusing goes without saying.

Here are a few more which have come to my notice recently:

RUTH BPRAGUE

Died in 1846, aged 8 years, 4 months, 3 days. She was stolen by Dr. Roderick Clow; her body was Hoosick, N.Y., where her mutilated remains were found and deposited here.

HPT body was dissected by fiend-

ish men. Her bones anawrnized; Her soul, we trust, has risen to

God, Where few physician's rise. The following couplet rm a mis- or's tomb is opigrammatic:

Here lies old Billy Gripe, who never cried "Jamrltis," "rwould make him mad did he know

You read his opltaph gratis.

This couplet, too, from Prince Edward Island is not without its merits, though the rhyme is far from satisfactory. I have copied it from the Canadian Illustrated News of August 4. 1883. and un- fortunately nr perhaps fortunately the magnzinn does not tell us from which cometary it was tak-

This strange epitaph could be soon in Wonlwich churchyarci for a long tlirie, but, after some per- suasion the rector prevailed upon the widow to let him remove the flippant. lines.

The following quaint inscript- ion on the tcnmbstonc of a noted beer-drinker, is still to be react in a. churchyard i.n the city of Durham. England:

An eccentric old fellow in I-loughton-iv:-spring. England. 01'- dered the following inscription to be placed on his tombstone:

And crossing the channel to Bel- insi, Ireland, we see another gravestone with these lines:
