San Franetsco, Cal., Oct. 14, A China mail received here says a dis- astrous flood occurred near Fang Shan

Haien, in the vicinity of Pekin, on the night of Aug. 13th. Seven and a half inches of rain fell in Pekin

and an immense volume of water collected in a revine about Llen Li Ho, and sudden- ly broke in upon twenty villages. More than 10,000 people were drowned and a large number of draft animals. The villages in the valleys near Pekin re in danger every season, as the hills are destitute of trees and the waters flow together in fear- ful torrents unimpeded by vegetation.

MartrimontaL.—The nuptials of William 5. Hacker and Ella P, Montgomery, both of Summerside, P. E. 1., were celebrated at the residence of T. Archibald, Truro, on Wed- nesday morning, by Rev. T. H. Murray, uncle of the bride. Immediately after the ceremony the happy couple took the train for Moncton en route for their Island home.

Firg.—A fire broke out at Point du Chene about one o'clock on Saturday morning, and before it could be extinguished several build- ingswere destroyed. Toronto News. Toronto, Oct. 14. The smallpox scare has completely col- lapsed. There have been no new cases since last Sunday, and the patients at the hospital are all doing well.

Tom Buckley, the murderer of Bertha Usher, was brought this morning before Chief Justice Galt and given fifteen years. His Lordship said that since passing sen- tence upon the prisoner of five years, he had further evidence laid before him of the prisoner’s criminal record.

A petition was filed yesterday, against the return of John Waldie. M. P. for Halton. The petitioner is Thomas Lusk, and the usual charges of bribery and cor- ruption are made. This is the third petition of a simular nature since the general election.
