tico, praying for such measures as may be deemed best for the

better protection of the God Fisheries, be discharged, and that the

said petition be published in the Royal Gazette newspaper for general information.

We, the undersigned inhabitants of Rustieo and vicinity beg leave to call your attention to the fact, that the use of Trawls or Sett lines on the north side of this Island has increased to such an extent as is likely to prove extremely ruinous to one 01 our most important branches of industry—the Cod Fisheries.

Your petitioners have every reason to believe that if the present practice of Sctt line ﬁshing is continued, a few years more will see the utter extinction of the Codtish on our shores, as has been the result, from the same cause, in some of the best ﬁshing grounds in the North American waters.

We trust, therefore, that your Honorable House will take such measures as may be deemed best for the better protection of this great interest, which is yearly becoming of more and more impor» tance to the Inhabitants of of Prince Edward Island.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray
