Sent ro Tae Lunatic AsyLum.—A young woman named Maggie McAuley, who is said to belong to P. E. L, left here, Friday morn- ing, on the American boat to Boston. On the way she showed signs of insanity, and was landed at Eastport. She returned to this city by Saturday's steamer, and was taken to the provincial lunatic asylum by the police. — St. John Telegraph.

Boat Founp.—The steamer St. Lawrence, on her trip from Pictou last evening, p assed a boat bottom up off St. Peter's Isiand. She was apparently about 16 feet keel, sloop- rigged, painted yellow, and had her mainsail set. The steam launch Lady Lansdowne towed the upturned boat to the railway wharf this morning, where she now lies. The oars aud tiller are gone, but the thole pins are in their place. There is nothing about the boat to indicate her ownership. The probability is that the person or persons who had been handling her met a watery grave.

MaANSLACGHTER.—Robt. Welsh, a boy aged fourteen years, has been convicted of manslaughter in Ontario and Mrs. Kent, aged forty, has been convicted as accessory to the crime. The Kent woman was stay- ing with the Welsh family in Truro. She had previously been living in illicit relations with Timothy Clifford. The latter com- pleted a term in jail for larceny, got drunk and at midnight tried to gain entrance to

the Welsh domicile. Urged on by his mother and the Kent woman, the boy Weish blew Clifford’s brains out. Mrs.

Welsh has since died. The father was in the penitentiary at the time and two other sons have been convicted of crime.

Lord Stanley ot Preston has already be- came the subject of talk by his democratic action, This afternoon he further demon- strated that he is a man for the people. He was on Parliament Hill long before the guard of honor and employed his time in walking up and down the boulevard chat- tingwith Sir A. P.CaronandGen, Middleton, After the guard arrived His Excellency did something which no other Governor before him has done. He inspected the guard.

Lord Stanley was sworn in as Governor- General by Chief Justice Ritchie in the Senate Chamber this evening. There was a small gathering lo-witness the ceremony,

Lord Stanley was escorted from Rideau Hall by a troop of dragoons and was re- ceived by a guard of honor formed of two companies of the Governor-General’s foot guards. A salute of 19 guns was fired from Nepean Point Battery,

Lord Stanley has subscribed $150 for the benefit of the sufferers by the Hull fire.

Lord Stanley leaves to-morrow for the Lower St. Lawrence. He will receive an address of welcome at Montreal and Quebec en route, .

Besides the forty nets destroyed by Yan- kee desperadoes; belonging to the fisher- men at Little Ance, Petit de Grat and Rocky Bay, sixty nets belonging to fisher- men at L’Ardoise were also destroyed. During Thursday and Friday a fleet of fifty Americans were cruising and seining mack- erel among the nets of Canadian fishermen inshore at Richmond County, and the total damage wantonly inflicted by the Ameri- cans has not yet been fully ascertained. The names of two of the most daring of these pirates are the steam seiner Novelty, of Portland, and the schooner Alice C. Gordon, of Gloucester.

The appointment of Mr. McLelan as Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia is officially announced.

The Government have granted permission to erect a monument to Ottawa sharp- shooters in Mayor’s Park.

Mr. Dewdney is expected here this week to be sworn in as Minister of the Interior.

Over 120 families are provided for daily in Hull.
