Toe Kritparg Teacuers’ Ixstrrvrer.—A meeting of the above Institute being held at the Kildare River School-house, on Saturday the 28th November, it was unanimously resolved, that R. Hockin take the chair, and J. G. Murphy act as Sec’y.

Resolved, That A. MeEachern read the Constitution, which he was previously requested to draw out. This was accord- ingly done, and is as follows :—

Articiy 1. This Society shall be called the ‘ Kildare Teachers’ Institute.’’

2. It shall be the object of this Society to awaken the in- terest and enlist the sympathy of the community in all matters connected with the proper education of the young, and to appoint committees of two or more Teachers, whose |

on demand. The sensation occasioned by this proceeding was indescribable towards the afternoon of Wednesday, the notes of the Bank being rejected by several shopkeepers in exchange

for goods, and every artifice and effort resorted to by the}

holders to get them converted into cash. But in a day or two}

the excitement was over, and those who had shortly before contemptuously swept the notes from their counters were

Discount on Excnzgver Biris.—We observe by a late Eng- lish paper that Exchequer Bills in England have fallen toa discount of thirty shillings. Weare not aware that any of the Opposition journals have raised a howl in consequence about the insolyency and incapacity of the Imperial Govern- ment, beeause that is exactly what the Islander did when the Treasury Warrants of this Island were sold at a discount last summer, owing to the great scarcity of money and the partial

suspension of business at the Bank. Now Treasury Warrants | are not only worth the full amount stated on the face of them, | but have been in considerable demand for some time past, | especially since the suspension of specie payments at the Bank, and since the Treasury have recommenced paying the school- | masters’ warrants on presentation, which has diminished the

profits of those who so lately drove a brisk trade in shaving | ;

operations.

Taanxsatving Day.—Last Thursday, having been the day | set apart by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor for a) general thanksgiving in return for the blessings of an abun-|

dant harvest — was better observed in this City than such |

days usually have been. It is not unwortliy of remark that |

the institution of a public holiday in this Island was unknown | before the establishment of Responsible Government; and it |

is a little consoling to reflect that the editors of the Sanctified

Press can find something to praise connected with the public | career of the men whom they would fain have turned out of | the Government.

Frre anp surposep Incenp1arism.—The Dunstaffnage Schocl | louse, situate on Saint Peter’s Road, about seyen miles from | Charlottetown, which bas been the subject of so much litiga- tion in the Courts and discussion in the House of Assembly— | was burnt to the ground on Friday night last. A new two storey dwelling house adjoining it, owned by Mr. James Stew- | art, of Appletree Farm, wa burnt at the same time. We are informed that Mr. Stewart's house was insured for a very | considerable amount, and was not near finished. A suspicion is very prevalent that the property was wantonly set fire to. |

Tae Centrat Bank.—A notice from the President of this) Bank announces that in consequence of reports from this City | relative to the refusal of the Banks here to tak@the paper of the Central, the latter announces it to be their duty to resort | to a temporary suspension of specie payments. |

A despatch from Fredericton says that the Provincial Secre- | tary has directed the Receiver General not to receive or pay Central Bank paper at his office.—New Brunswicker.

On Saturday last, as the Schr. Emily was entering the har- | bour, the crew observed a fine large deer swimming from Negrs | Head towards the west point of Partridge Island. A boat | was lowered and pursuit made after him. After a vain effort | to escape his pursuers, he was captured, but he only relin-| quished the struggle with his life, for on being towed to the | vessel, he nearly upset the boat, when he was despatched.—Jb. |
