The harbor commissioners of Mon.. treal, with the view of helping the grain trade of the port, have resolved to do their part in reducing the harbors dues from 74 to one cent a ton. The authority of the government to the change, which is necessary under the law, has been asked, in the confident be- lief that it will not be refused. An ia- crease of vessels engaged in the grain trade would help to make up the loss which this reduction would cause from dues on inward freight.

Professor Wiggins says he has dis- covered asecond moon making its re- volution in an orbit at twice the distance of our visible satellite. Our second moon is invisible from the fact of pos- sessing no atmosphere. It passed ac- cross the suns discon May 16th and caused a partial solar eclipse at seven o'clock p. m., visible in Michigan. He says satellites happening together so near the sun caused the remarkable frosts of the 25th and 28th of last month.

Osear Wilde has written a silly and thoroughly characteristic letter to a friend in which he says he has not been dissappointed in marriedlife. He feels eonfident of his ability to sustain its labors and anxieties,and sees an oppor- tunity in his new relations ot realizing a poetical conception which he has long entertained. He says that lord Beacon- field taught the peers of England a new style of oratory, and similarly he in- tends to set an example of the pervad- ing influence of art in matrimony.

“The meanest man in the world” is said to have been one who lately died at Walden, N. Y. He was worth between $30,000 and $40,000, but he sent his mother tothe poor-house in her eightieth year. She hadagreat horror of the
