Complaint is being made regarding the delay in the British mails on account of the steamships calling at St. John’s, Nfld. The Allan Company are under contract with the Newfoundland Government for a _fort- nightiy mail service, and they obtained ver- mission from the Dominion Government for the steamers to call grounds that it would facilitate trade be- tween Canada and Newfoundland. The Post Office Department and the Montreal Board of Trade are now corresponding on the subjece, and itis understood that the government will take the necessary steps to remedy the matter complained of.
