While the commitment was being prepared for Bushey, another of the crew, John Mullens by name, took it into his head to steal a horse and wagon standing near the Court House, and belonging to Mr. McCormack, one of the convicting Magistrates. He was pursued by a con- stable, and after a hot chase overtaken and brought back. The Magistrate was the prosecutor this time. Mullens was at once tried and found guilty of horse stealing, for which offence he was sent off in com- pany with his companion, Bushy, on the noon train, in charge of Sheriff McDonald, to serve out a three months’ residence in jail with hard labor.
