Got Idol? Yup!

; Everybody knows that the music industry hit its peak in 1995 when Michael Jackson floated a gigantic statue of himself down the Thames River. The sheer magnitude of the event sent shockwaves around the world. Nothing in our lifetimes was ever to come close to comparing to a music event so breathtaking. Everybody knew this. Except for the producers of Canadian Idol it would seem.

In case you’ve been living under a rock the past few months, this life changing event is the announcement of Canadian Idol’s intent to bring auditions to Prince Edward Island. Don’t clean those reading glasses, you read correct, Canadian Idol, the lukewarm cousin to Fox’s American Idol, will be coming to Charlottetown

- onApril 26", 2005. Nancy pretty boys and over-dramatic girls from all over the Island will soon line the streets like vagrants for their chance to be humiliated on national television.

The event is a long time coming considering some of the talent this Island has produced. Kids still hum Haywire when they play Pog out in the schoolyard, and the violin industry still hasn’trecovered since-Lennie Gallant’s last ECMA-winning album. Already potential candidates are frothing at the mouth for a chance to compete.

Fastest runner in his grade 4 class Ricky Gossen is pumped for the chance. “This is going to be astronomical. I’ve been waiting for my renaissance ever since they shut down

_ karaoke at the Red Rooster. I advise the judges to bring a fire extinguisher, cause it’s about to get hot... very hot.”

A sign that the competition that’s soon to arise, he also added, “I recently bumped into Ruben Studdard on the tread mill, and I told him that’s exactly where he should be.. . training!”

Remember, this isn’t your granddaddy’s Canadian Idol auditions. The April tryouts are open only to those between the ages 16 and 26.
