The drapery is very short, with many curves, and is very bouffant. The basque is sharply pointed in front, short on the hips and pleated like ahabit inthe back. The silk vest laps over the fastening of the lining in one piece, in Breton fashion, and has reversin theupper part; the officer’s collar also has silk in tront. The English turban worn with it of the red silk laid in fold and ornament- ed witha gilt pin. The fourth dress has a waist of navy blue webbing, with blue serge skirts and trimming of crim- son and blue blocks. The false skirt has a pleating of the blue around the bottom and the serge is laid over this several plain on the front and sides,with all fullness massed in pleats behind. There is a band of blocked wool around the skirt and the edge is scalloped and bound. The short apron overskirt is trimmed like the lower skirt and is mounted above the edge of the waist of Jersey webbing. A crimson vest fastened by two rows of pale blue buttons. ;

Will Mr. Bennett Sell the N. Y. “Herald.”
A report is current in New York that John W. Mackay is negotiating with James Gordon Bennett for the purchase of the New York Herald, with the in- tention of putting John Russell Young at the head of its editorial staff Mr. Mackay is interested with Mr. Bennett in the Bennet-Mackay cable, in the con- struction of which $8,000,000 is said to have been sunk. For Mr. Bennett’s share of this enterprise Mr. Mackay is reported to hold a mortgage on the Herald. Mackay’s wealth much talked zbout in this connexion, He is said to have $21,000,000 in securities locked up in bis strong box—$5,000,000 in United States 4 per cents., $5,000,000 in rentes, $5,000,000 in consols and $6,- 000,000 in state securities of the U. S., bearing 5 to 8 per cent., interest. In addition to this is his cable investment and his interest in the Bank of Nevada.
