CHICAGO, Jan. 18 - (CP) Chicago Staclium officials said the Detroit-Chicago National Hockey League game, originally scheduled for tonight, was postponed two months ago to make way for the Sonja I-Ienie ice show.

Although the show closed last Monday. they said. the hockey date v as not renewed.

Instead the game will. be played tomorrow night.

Judging from the scores and re-

ports on Monday nighht's Mari- time Senior'.l-lockey league tilts, fans at both Saint John and Hall- fax got plenty for their money in the way of smart hockey and ex- citement. With both Saintamarlans and Beavers boosting their league standings by two points over Mone- ton and Islanders respectively, the games were nip-and-tuck affairs that saw the Saints come from be- hind to nip a. hard-fighting Moncton crew 8-7 in a free-scoring contest. while Saint John lend all the way to decision Islanders 5-3 for their sixth win over the league leaders in nine contests over Beavers' home ice.

Clashes between those two teams, Beavers and Islanders have come up with a rather unique record. The two clubs have met 1'1 times in scheduled play to date and both have just about been supreme in their home rinks with their losses being at the home of the opposition. The Beaver Club seem to have the "Indian sign" on the league leading Islanders over Saint John ice and have only dropped three of nine contests to the Lamoureux-coached pucksters in nine games there. while in turn the locals have topped out Beavers over Charlottetown ice in six out. of eight starts. A pretty close home and home record to say the least.

I O I 'Although the Islanders hold a wide margin at the top of the league over the third-place Beavers. a total of 28 points, yet the Saint John boys seem to give the Is-.

What is the reason for this? Don't ask us. It is Just one of those peculiar things about hockey or any other sport for that matter. Most people try to avoid any real explanation of such situations by falling back on the old saying "I guess they just have the Indian Sign on them" -It is as good an answer as any, and until somebody comes along with u better and more logical one. we'll stick to the old saying.

Borden Nationals Win 7-4 Victory Over Airmen

The Borden Nationals defeated the R. C. A. F. Meteors 7-4 at the Crystal Rink last night, and took over first place in the East Prince Hockey League. The Airmen had the edge in territorial play but their shooting for the most part was inaccurate and when they were on the target Richard of Borden held worn off with a fine display of net g't'.a.rdL;a.

Oscar Campbell turned the "hat trick," shooting three goals for the Nationals. The score at the end of the first period was 3 to l for Borden, is oh teen shot a counter in the sandwich session and the visitors edged the Meteors 3 to 2 in the final session.

Now he comes back for another shot-pounds lighter. He also brings with him a .293 batting mark.
