Lonpoy, March 11.—The Times regards the news from Pekir as anassuring. , It cays: “ An interval may occur auring which diplomatic means may be employed to avert i!l-considered actions on the part of our rivals. If a delay of any duration has been actually procured, Sir Claude MacDonald, the British minister, may be relied upon to wake the most of it im the interests of peace. In other respects the position in Cuina seems as far from im- provement as the position in Weet Africa, Ifthe report from St. Petersburg that Russia will decline to give Great Britain the information she bas asked is correct, the nation cannot be blamed should they put the worst possible construction on the refusal, Those most familiar with public opinion throughout the country will be the first to recognize that tie present temper of the people is not to be thrifled with. At no time sipce the Crimean war have they been less disposed to brook intringements from any quarter on their just rights. They are perfectly con vinced of the justice of their cauce and the magnitude of the issues at stake, both in China and West Africa. They believe it may become their duty to vindicate that cause in either region, and if such a duty should be thrown upon them by the blun ders or perversity of others, they will not flinch from it. We donot make this assertion in any spirit of bravado or from any desire to rouse the warlike feeling of the cougtry. We make it in the true in- terests of peace, because the greatest menace to peace liesin the danger that our rivels may fail to believe (bat we are in earnest until it ig too late, Foreigners do not appear to realize ihe bucivess view we take of war, as of other matters, where our busisess interests are concerned. Our conduct is regulated msivly by business considerations. Ifthe prejudice done us is slight we mey resent this yet pass it over rather than tace serious losses, which, as we well know, war must,at the besi':nvolve to our trade. But if the prejudice doae cr threatened is very grave and irreparable, we are ready, of the two great eyils, to choose war ast e least.”

Orrawa, March 11.—The Honee of Commons divided on the Yukon bill at 4:30 o'clock this morning,
The Opposition amendment was Jost by a vote of 65 yeas to Ill! nays. Messrs Costigan, Hale, Bethune and Hughes vot- ing with the Government. A vote was then taken oa the main motion which was carried by a vote of one hundred and eleven yeas to 7Z nays.
Messrs. Hughes and Bethune, Conserva- tive, voting with the Government, while MelIunis,O Brien, Rogersand Erb, Liberail-, voted with the Opposition. Mr. Casey escaped the vote—Messrs. Costigan and Hale voted “nay” on both motions.
