After enduring a lifetime of despondency Elisha Payne, of Winsted, Conn., seventy vears old, gave up last Friday and killed himself. Jilted fifty years ago while he was in his teens by a girl ne adored, Payne loved her for fifty years. The girl was Lottie Nash, pretty and well-to de, vut her parents objected to the union.

The day he heard this decision Payne disappeared and became a hermit whose only home was a cave in @ mountain and his food wild berries of the wood and such gam: ash:could ensnare. Ia Costa thinks the exclusive milk diet is a source of mischief rather than good, and recommends three parts of milk alternated with one broth.
