A Mysrexy.—On Wednesday last while several children were playing at the corner of Grafton and Rotchford Streets, they dis- covered a human skull below the bridge, at the crossing. A number of thigh and other bones have also been found at the same place. The skull was brought to Apothecaries Hall, where it may he seen.

Our imports thence, however keep increa- sing, having been in 1874, $47,735,678 ; 1874, $54,283,072; 1875, $50,805,820 ; 1876, $46,070.033 Our centemporary, the Monetary Times, reaches this conclusion, that ‘‘ the currents of our importstrade are changing to the detriment of Great Britain and the advantage of the Siates.”’

Beca@ars mx Canapa.—A_ correspondent of the Scotsman writes from Ottawa that the mild winter has been a great blessing for the poor and unemployed, who are very nu- merous. Beggars here, he adds, now are as Numerous as in the cilies and towns of the Old World—in fact, more numerous— and as a consequence the doors of those in better circumstances stand a daily seige. With such an array of misery and want of employment as is visible in ali our towns and cities, we want no immigration except from capitalists ‘er tillers of the soil. Arti- sans afid mechanics of all kinds are at a dis- count, and had better’ stay at home than endeavor to change their circumstances, pro- bably for the worse, by immigration at pre- sent.

Tne Street Corner Loafing nuisance still continues. The members of that association seem to defy the power of the authorities. Seyeral examples, it is true, have been made, but sympathy for those martyrs has been shown by an increase of loafers. The crowds now stand on the cross-streets so as not to be detected on Queen Street. Occa- sionally one of the number peeps around the commer and, seeing that both the upper and lower portion of the street does not con- tain a Knight of the Baton, they resume their deliberations until a policeman is seen approaching, when the crowd leisurely walks a short distance until the city protec- tor passes, and then immediately returns, and business is resumed. Cannot some- thing be done to stop this nuisance ! A Berlin despatch says that Germany is again busily mediating between Austria and | Russia, with a view te adjusting differences.

Papers say that Russia has ordered 15,- 000 torpedoes here, with directions that they be forwarded to the part of the Tur- kish coast occupied by Russians.

The Times’ special from St. Petersburgh says, an inspired article in the Journal de St. Petersburgh says that the conviction that England’s demands are incompatible with the interests of Russia and. Europe will find firm support in the public opinion of | the Empire. Notwithstanding this decid- ed language, all hope of a peaceful solution aro not yet abandoned.

Master & Bro., of this city, with having obtained goods from them on credit, after he knew that he was insolvent, and upon the strength of a false statement of the position of his afiairs. The suit is for the recovery of the value of the goods, charging the defendant with fraud with a view to his imprisonment under section 136 of the Insolvent Act of 1875. It appears that the defendant made a compromise with his creditors and got the composition deed signed by the requisite
