Toes of the Steamer “ Albert.”

The K. C. Advertiser supplies the follow- ing particulars :—

Ve are sorry to have to chronicle the loss of the above steamer, which has hither- to done se much to keep up communication between this Island and the mainland dur. ing th» summer and winter seasons. She is a total wreck at the Magdalen Islanas. The‘ Albert” left this port on Wednesday night last at 10 o’clock p. m. for Souris and the Magdalenes. From one of the crew of the ill-fated steamer, who has arrived since the disaster, we learn the following particu:

rived safely at tho Magdalene Islands and

landed passengers and mails at Amherst ; then proceeded to Pleasant Bay and came to an anchor, when the storm arose. The holding ground is so poor in this Bay that it was impossible with both anchors and a full bead of steam to keep the ship from going ashore, and af p.m. on Thursday evening she grounded on Mademoiselle Cliffs, and immediately commenced break- ing up. The crew remained by her until the following morning, when she was high and dry, and at low water could walk all around her with ease. The engine is not much injured, bat the boiler is burst, and the whole bottom is out of the steamer. The captain chartered the schr. ‘St. Ann” to bring the mails, passengers and crew to this jsland, and landed them safely at Souris on Tuesday evening, arriving at 7 p.m. ‘The ‘‘ Albert” was about ten years old, and was built at Hopewell Cape, Al- bert Co., N. B., and run for some time be- tween St. John and the up-Bay ports, but

We also unlerstand that Mr. Morrison, of the Merchants Bank of this place, accompanied by his wife, and Mr. William Stavert, are to be passengers. in Mr. McMillan’s new bark Malinche. We wish them all a plea- sant voyage cnd a safe return.

St. Petersburg telegram states that Abraham Pasha recently eeded to an English company of shipchandlers, for 25 years, at a rental of £2,000, some property extending 15 kilemetres along the Asiatic shore of the Black Sea from the mouth of the Bosphorus to the vil lage of Riva, on which there are traces of the fortress built by the Genoese to command the Upper Bosphorus and mouth of the Black Sea. Private ads vices from Constantinople now report that negotiations have taken place with some English engineers for acquiring two large properties on the Huropean side of the Black sea, opposite Abraham Pasha’s belonging respectively to Vila- lis Pasha and the Greek family Baltazzi, Austrian subjects. These private sales or cessions close to Constantinople are said to trouble the Sultan. Oa the other hand, such are the financial straits of the Government that it is rn- mored the Porte intends to ‘sell the Crown lands in Mesopotamia, in order to furnish ready money for pressing requirements.
