THE PATRIOT AND THE STANLEY,

Sin,—The Patriot of yesterday is out with an ¢editerial condemning the Stanley, which, as usual, shows @ narrowness ef view and party animua which is, to say the least, unkind, ungrateful, and ignor- ant to a remarkable degree. To condemn the Stanley on the first trip of the year going out light, with little preparation for 1¢¢, and because the did pot make the trip over as quickly as the new beat Minte, which has been running all w'nter and also sticking in ice, requires more gall than we thought was possessed by a tritediter. The Patriot is misleading when it saye the Stanley took almost five houra and a half te make the trip performed by the Miate im three houre. But why dwellon that point? The Stanley is well kuown, and her record is establish- ed by her past work. Any dirt~slinging againet her by parties who donot know they are talking about will only lessen the respect of public for their state- ments, ne matter what their political leamiogs may be.
