POLITICAL PICNIC.
Sir Dharles Tupper Accorded a Splen- did Reception at Berwick.
Beawics,N. &., Oct. 3.—When Sir Charles Tupper stepped oa the platform at Berwick, yesterday, the rain was coming down in torrents, but there was a good crowd on hand to greet him, and the Berwick band played a patriotic air. The speech was to have been an open-air one, on tbe famous Methodist camp meeting grounds, but the fierce rain forced the committee to change the meeting place to a jargeempty barn on the grounds. This was occupied by four bundred men, staud-~ ing closely packed together, and there were many whocould not get in. Had the weather been fine, 5,000 people would Lave beard Sir Charles speak.

Suppen DeatH.—Mr. Thomas Connors, aged 67, for three years janitor of Prince of Wales College, died very suddenly cf heart failure last night at bis home on the college grounds. He had gone to bed at 10 o’clock iv excellent health. Atout an hour later he woke the others in the house by @ smotnering sound. They did what they con'd for him and called in Dr. Kelly. But before the doctor arrived Mr. Connors died, without speaking a word. Mr. Connors leaves a wife and three children to mourn their loss. A son,Cbar- les, resides ‘n Boston, and has been tele» graphed to. Mre,. Jobn McAleer, of Chars lottetown, and Miss Lizzie Connors, are the remainingchildren. Mr. Connors be- longed to Tracadie, and will be buried there. The _ pupi's of the Mode! School have presented a floral cross and wreath as a token or their sympathy for the wife and other relatives of the de- ceased.
