It was close upon twelve o’clock when Mr. Shaw began his address which was eo racy and pointed that the attention of even those whom the Grits bad made drink was commanded for the first fifteen minutes. After that there was some noise, but Mr. Shaw was enabled to con- clude his half hour speech amid rounds of applauee. It is significant that first Mr. Farquharson and then Dr. Douglass were Constrained to leave the meeting while Mr. Shaw was critizing the Government.

Hon. William Campbell moved the vote of thanks to the chairman,—whicb Mr. | Gallant acknowledged, at the same time denounced the conduct of those who had disturbed the meeting and at- tempted, wrongfully and unsuccessfully ,to bring disgrace upon Rustico.
