Royals Take Lead

Played Strong Games

WE thought that young Donnie Frizzell was a standout Thursday night. He had no chance on the goals that beat him and he stopped plenty of others that had‘the Royals shaking their heads in amazement. Frizzell is playing the best goal of his career and we rate him right now as the best goaltender in Dr. Clark’s loop. We can get plenty of arguments on that score but our vote is for Donnie Frizzell at the moment. I

lea e. ‘Bucko' Trainer surely has found the key to this fellow wiltimh-as been a standout in all three semi-final games to date. Another great digger is Summerside's Dave Gaudet who is willing to go into any corner with anybody.

There Are Many Others

JUST because we mentioned these few names doesn't mean we think the rest of the boys on both clubs are playing poor hockey. That's not the case but_at the moment these boys we feel rate a special wo o praise.

The Birds should benefit when Royals get a penalty but the way things are looking, it’s better for the Old Spainers if they haven’t got a manpower advantage. They have looked their worst when they should have been applying the heat to the Whitlock-coached gang. This is one problem coach Trainor is faced with. but undoubtedly ‘Bucko’ will find a solution to this problem.

Top Refereeing

IN our book. Deni Whelan did a fine job of refereeirlg 'I'lnirs- day night. There never was any question about the game g - ting out of hand as Whelan nipped things right 1n the bud.

We’ve watched plenty of referees outside this province and we've talked with coaches and players who worked under main- land referees. Our opinion and their opinion agree that the Island officials are better than the mainlanders. We’ve been sayin that for several years and we are more conVinced than ever that we are .

It‘s easy to shoot oflf at the mouth. say cheap things from the stands and blame referees unjustly. alk is cheap but we must face facts and ask ourselves where we can improve on what we’ve got.
