Dissatisfied Education Students met on Octob- er 7th to elect a chairman and a co-chairman who will present their grievances to the Faculty of Education.

Leon Bernard and Jim Colody are to bring to the attention of the Faculty, the inadequacies of the present program and the facilities being used.

They are presently holding most of their classes in the old bookstore. It is felt that this does not compare favourably with the facilities being used by other students. The classroom problem is to be alleviated temporarily with the removal of the uncomfortable desks and a bit of interior decor- atin g.

‘Education professors are too conventional’ is the most frequent complaint against the Faculty. ‘The lecture system is not the only way to teach.’

‘Sessions should not be so formal.’

‘lt’s necessary to make the coursewless struc- tured.’

Arrangements were made to discuss represent- ation on the curriculm committee and the

Senate. Elections will be held at the next meeting.

On October 14.. National. Survival Day, a small group met on campus to dIScuss various aspects of pollution. Three speakers were present: Mr. Arthur Hiscock, head of the RBI. Water Auth- ority; Mr. Stan Bas who works with Wildlife and Conservation on P.E.I.; and Dr. Re '5 Duffy of the Chemistry Department at U.P.E. ..

Hiscock spoke first. He pointed out that water pollution is a major problem on RBI. and he streSsed the nee for sewage plants to treat the raw Sewage that enters the waterways of the Islf and. For example, Hiscock noted that‘the Summerside Harbor receives all the raw sewa e

formative talk about the conservation of soil and wildlife on P.E.I.. Dr. Duffy picked up where Bas left off. His main concern was the use of 1n- sectieides in controlling the pests thatharm the crops. 'He said the effects of 1nseet1c1des are

good and bad. In closing he remarked that 1n— seetieides will probably be with us for the next ten years since serious research on other forms of pest control is only recently getting started.

Dear Editor:

I am writing to you concerning the September 30, 1970 Cadre. I feel that the last page of this issue requesting the arrest of Jesus Christ (in comparing him to today’s hippies) is not only sacrilegious but also in‘very poor taste. I think

that if you, as the editor, and the entire Cadre staff have nothing else to make fun of, you

should keep it to yourself and not publish your ignorance in our school paper. Our paper should» be something we could be proud of, and I for

one would not be proud; to say that this issue came from the University that I attend.
