TRON EAGLE

Iron Eagle is a fair movie that had the potential to be much better. A few extra million here and there, and this movie might have been a box-office smash.

The plot is pretty original. Col. Ted Masters (Tim Thomerson) is a U.S. Air Force Pilot that is captured by an a.ionymous Middle East Country for invading their air space. When the United

his son Doug (Jason Gedrik) con- vinces retired fighter pilot Col. Charles (Chappy) Sinclair (Louis Gosset Jr.) to join him in an ef- fort to rescue his father.

Half of the time, the story is possibly believeable, the other half of the time, it is not. A glaring weakness is that a bunch of air bas: kids couid possibly take over the computer system of the U.S. Air Force, and obtain any-

scret flight plans? As for throwing

fire-crackers in a garbage can and

watching everyone hide from the bullets, this went out with Max-

well Smart. If the U.S. Air Force is really this pityful maybe Canada isn’t that far from being a world

power afterall. As for the technical points, the

acting was alright. Louis Gosset Jr. was the same as ever, above average but no awards. Jason Gedrick had a few weak points, but nothing major, but maybe any youngster who graduates from high school, gets rejected from flight school, almost dies when his plane is sabatoged, and hears that his dad has been shot down in an

enemy country has some ha’ ps. It’s possible.

Overall, this movie is one of those ‘might have been’ films that

had a chance to soar but didn’t quite get up enough speed. With some polishing, this film could have been a winner instead of a sixer.
