_.. KINSMEN MEET — The regular meeting of the Kinsmen Club of Summerslde was held lsst evening with Herb Strlght as chairman. The meeting was held in the Olympia Restaurant. Most of the meeting was taken up with a discussion of plans for the Kins- men harvest ball being staged 1n the new warehouse on the Marine Wharf on Wednesday evening Oct. 5th. Wally Coulson. chairman of the committee in charge, outlined the plans and gave out the duties that each member would be ex- pected to perform. Elaborate plans are being made as this warehouse is only recently completed and nothing has ever been stored ln it so it is absolutely clean with a good floor for dancing. Two orch- estras, for modern and old tim! dancing, are being provided. The pas- tor, the Rev. C. S. Stevens. preached an impressive and thought provoking sermon to a congregation which filled the building to hymns were sung with Miss Se- lina Johnstone as organist and spacial selections were beautifully re dered by Messrs. Specialist Course In‘ Air Navigation To Open At S’side October 11

Number two specialist navigation course will continence alt the R.C. A. F. station, Summerside on October 11th. This is the most ad- vanced oourse in navigation given In the R..O.A.l"..l!oa4ers will re- call the first specialist course giv-

flights undertaken such as the non stop flight to Summerslde from Sacramento. California; the first R..O.A.F. flight over the North Polo and the trans Atlantic flights to and from the United Kingdom. In each case the now-well known Lancaster alrcraiter Zenith and Polaris were used.

This course ls intended to qual- ify an officer for any navigational position in any ali- force in the world. It lasts six months and during that time lectures are given by service and civilian experts brought to Summerslde from var- ious centers in Caxiada, Great Brit- aln and the United States.

Ar last year the whole course will be taken on visits to lmtru- ment manilfocturlng plants. re- search centers and other establish- ments in this country. Great Brit- ain and the United States. Their purpose will give the members of the course an opportunity to learn st first hand the latest develop- ments in navigational technique.

In November they will go to Mont- real. Toronto and Ottawa where they will visit such places as the University of Toronto and the Nat- ional Research Council In January a visit will be made to the United States and Sqdn-Ldr, W. L. Gil- lespie, who is officer commanding specialist courses, plans to visit New York, Washington and other centers in the near future to plan the trip and arrange that. they will see things which will be of real benefit; to them. ,

In March the course will visit Great Britain and the latter part of April they will do two iveelrs of Arctic flying. As in the first course an officer of the United States Air Force will take the course. He is Captain L.G. Phillips of Washington.

Miss Grace B. Beoitie Patient In Hospital

"Graccfully rounding out a long and useful CIIFCCI‘ alnld familiar surroundings and the atmosphere she loved, is Miss Grace B. Beat- tie, R.N., first superintendent of nurses at the Brockton Hospital, now-s. patient at Prince County Hospital, Summerside, Prince Ed- ward Island.

"In the same hospital which she organized rind served as superin- tendent for many years after re- tiring from the same position here In Brockton in June, i912, she is virtually a queen on her throne. She is loved and administered to by the entire staff of doctors and nurses who cater to her every

"She is remarkably alert to ev- ery day happenings and keeps abreast of times and in touch with doctors and nurses who formerly worked with her, both in this city and Canada, She has kept up a correspondence with many former Brockton Hospital nurses and friends here and each Summer looks forward to visits from them She also derives much enjoyment from reading, despite the fact that she will observe her 91st. birthday anniversary in February.

She found Miss Seattle kept to her bed most of the time but able to get up on occasion and sit in her chair. .

The purpose of the organization was first, to secure by legislation, the protection of the nursing profession for the bene-

"Following her retirement from the active nursing profession she took a four-year course at Boston

"In 1912 she returned to her na- tive town of Summerside where after a. rest. she accepted a pos- ition as superintendent of the new Summerslde Hospital and served as heed of the nursing training school. About four years ago, she became a patient at the hospital where she will spend her remain- ing years.

"While in Brockton Miss Besttic was a member of the American Society of Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses, the American Hospital Association, a charter member of the State Nurses’ Association and councillor of that organization for Plymouth county. She was also a member of the Woman's Club of Brockton and of the Porter Congregational Church. - S
