A car Joaced with lumber, on a4 siding, inadvertently ran out on the main line as the passenger train was coming from McAdam Junction. The latter was coming around a curve at the rate of twenty miles an hour and the danger was not noticed in time to avoid collision. Engineer McFarlane reversed the enyine and then jumped clear. Prof. Sheldon has achieved. agreat reputation in this country as the writer of a valuable work on dairy farm- ing. He is on of the staff of the Royal Agricultural College at Circencester and is well known as an agricultural author] throughout the kingdem.

A pumeronsly attended meeting of the New York [rish Land League was held this afternoon tv consider the resiguation of the executive committee. The treasurer's re- port shows $1480 had been received for membership, and that disbursements to date left a balance of $415 on jiand. The membership to July 18, as stated by the secretary was 1,562. There was some dis- satisfaction expressed at the retirement of the executive committee, and after debate a motion to accept its resignation was adopted Dr. Wm. 13. Wallace was re-elected presi- dent: Michael Breslin was chosen vice- president, and James Pallas recording secre- tary.

George |tockers, an old man, was killed this morning by Herman Rockers, his son, in Dryton. Ky. Rockers had been melan- choly for some time over loss ef money of his own deposited with Archbishop Purcell and also of trust funds deposited with the bankrupt St. Francis Church, of Dayton, Ky. He had been drinking and this morning having been refused money by his wife he undertook to strike her with a poker when his son Herman interfered and a hii with a spade crushing in his skull,
