The cloud of caution which has hovered over the markets for many weeks thickened and trad- ing slowed down to its loweu vol- umes of the year. The number of stocks traded was the smallest since last nu.

Most market observers see an letup in the pattern in the near future. One analyst. W. I. Tqsrell of Cariile and McCarthy. Calgary. said the "fear oftinflation seems to outweigh other factors in the current action of the market which has given a good account of itself despite some rather pessimistic forecana." -

Mr. Taprell said inflation in he an overused word but the pur- chasing power of the dollar has dipped under 50 per cent of its 10.19 level.

Kippcn and Co. of Montreal said that the general undertone of the markets is one of indecision.
