No “Bivue Rurs” Taere.— The New Glas- gow Enterprise gives a lengthy account of the building operations in Pictou county, and es- timates that over $300,000 is being spent this year. $100,000 in New Glasgow (which in- cludes $50,000 for streets), $70,000 in West- ville, $35,000 in Pictou, $95,000 in Trenton, and $20,000 in Stellarton. $100,000 is also being spent in Truro.

Bic SALE or Ice Cream.—It takes a good deal to cool off New York ona hetday. On the 4th of July one ice cream manufacturer sold 50,000 quarts of cream. It is said that the profit on this was $7,500. A popular pharmacy sold 21 gallons of lemonade alone from its soda fountain one hot day recently. Tue Rirte.—A most enjoyable and success- fulday was 7 on Kensington range on Monday last by No. 1 Battery,G. A. The Battery was represented by 38 men and 3 officers. The shooting was a good average, considering a rear fishtail wind and many of the men having no practice. Corp. Murley heads the list with 68 points, with Captain Davison a good second with 65, (possible 80). The prizes will be presented at the Drill Shed this evening.

Dynamite 1n Nova Scorta.—Warrants have been issued against three young men named Murphy, Conrod and Sellers, who are charged with avery seriouscrime. A few days ago a quantity of powder and dynamite were placed under a house owned by Henry Stewall, of Lawrencetown, N. S., with the view evidently of destroying the house. The explosion did serious dam- age to the house, rendering it completely useless for habitation.

Pottce Courr.--John Rice was this morn. ing sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labor for the larceny of a watch from Mr. William Bradley. It appears that Rice entered Bradley’s residence, Huston Street East, yesterday afternoon, in the ab- sence of Mr. and Mrs. Bradley, and captured the watch. He was afterwards arrested for being drunk, and a watch was found in his possession which Bradley identified as the one stolen from him. In court this morning Rice at first pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing the watch, but afterwards owned up to the theft.

The Burchall Case.

Woopsrock, Ont., Aug. 5.

A cablegram has been received from G. T. Blackstock, Brighton, England, signify- ing his intention of accepting the retainer for the defence in the Burchall case. Be- sides Blackstock, Hellmuth and Ives, of Londen, Finkle, McKay and McMullen, a leading local law firm, have been been re- tained for the defence. Detective Biuett, ot Torento, whe is also watching the case tor the defence, is intuwn, and will re- main until aiter the trial.
