Lonpon, Nov. 21. _- Minister Welsh has paid over to Her.Ma- jesty’s Government the fisheries award by a draft for $5,500,000. Ottawa, Noy. 21. The object of the visit of Col. McLeod, to the North-West is for the purpose of _reor- ganizing the Mounted Police on the Austra- lian system. It is generally admitted that ex-Speaker Anglin had the right to make his recent ap- pointments, but that they are all subject to the approval of the House. Two contracting firms on the South East- ern Railway have refused to pay the labor- ers, leaving 200 destituto.

The stories about Indian troubles in the Northwest are contradicted.

A notorious and expert Boston pickpock- et, giving the name of George Ryan, was arrested this afternoon. He had robbed a Bible peddler named H. B. Stearns of a watch. He also tried to rob a lady. He will be sent to the Supreme Court for trial.

made to day for the Vice-Regal reception. The reception will be made on the Grand Parade ot Jacques Cartier Square. At the Windsor Hotel a suite of rooms is being fitted up in the most gorgeous style. The dinner serxice is a costly porce- lain, expressly imported for the occasion from Paris. Altogether, Montreal’s will be the most brilliant reception given to His Excellency and Her Royal Highness the Princess Louise.

The laborers onthe canal are not paid for October work. The pay day should be on the fifteenth of each month. The men stopped work to-day, and will not resume till paid.

Some of the canal officials tell the men that it is the fault of the new Government. Cape Breton laborers and others having last year lost about twenty thousand dol- lars by the work, are becoming alarmed.

Lonpon, Noy. 21.

An order was unexpectedly received at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, for .nearly 100 tons of camp equipage for the army in South Africa. Stores are being embarked for immediate despatch. The consignment includes a great number of tents, blankets, barrack furniture, utensils and other neces- saries which were sent out before the com- mencement of the Caffre campaign.
