Half-Cents Make Half-Dollars.

No man can make a success unless he is honest ; it does not pay to try to cheat your customers. He has confi dence in you and your methods, or he would not patronize you. If he dis- covers in any way, that you are not what he supposed you were, he of course loses confidence in you at once: Some merchants love money so well that they will take the half-cent inj; every transaction where one is involv} ed. Half—cents are small, but they; soon make cents and cents make dollars. Your customers always watch these small things and soon they will think, “well, if he will take the half- cent every time he gets a chance, he'll take the half-dollars too.” There are not many articles that a half-cent off would hurt your profit. Say a good customer buys three ;pounds of some thing (sugar) at six and one half (6%) cents per pound, which would amount to 19% cents; most merchants take twenty cents and say nothing of the half.cent, but the merchant that says “T’]l make it 19 cents,” thenceforth has a stronger hold on his customer. by only giving him a very little advantage. A few merchants say ‘‘well, next time Ill give you the half-cent off,” but strange to say the very next time they forget having said that. Watch your business make stronger your customers confi-— dence in you, and your business efforts will likely be}‘‘crowned with success.”— John J. Henderson,
